Websites don’t just get built and then left to stay the same forever more. They must be tweaked regularly in order to meet people’s increasingly complex and specific requirements. And with all the exciting tools and new technology at our fingertips, there’s a lot to keep on top of. So, if you want to stay ahead of the game, and keep yourself up to date with what’s new in the world of UX, here’s how to go about it.

One of the best ways to stay in the loop is to check UX news sites which post about the latest trends and hot topics. For example, sites likes UX Magazine and UX Matters. Google also post regular updates on their blog, some of which are user experience related, and contain useful tips and hints on where the industry is heading.

You can search elsewhere for industry trends and insights, but the best place to get insights about your audience is via your site. Check your site analytics to see what’s working, and what’s not. Carry out regular A/B testing to see how your audiences are responding to different updates and additions to your site.

If you really want to be in the know with all things UX, then book yourself a place at a major UX event. Here you can listen to useful talks, learn about industry news and trends, and discuss everything with fellow UX enthusiasts. Some key industry events to attend include UXLondon and MUXL.

There are plenty of places online where you can ask your audience questions. For example, on sites like QUORA, you can ask key questions in order to gain insights into people’s needs and current concerns with UX online. And don’t be afraid to ask the experts, get in touch with UX gurus and pick their brains.

Get stuck into some UX groups online via sites like LinkedIn. People posts some intriguing insights and opinions in these groups, which can spark ideas and new things to try. For example this User Experience LinkedIn group, or the User Experience Professionals Network.

If you’ve been engaged in the world of UX for a while, you’ll know who some of the key experts and influencers are. Keep an eye out on their activity and have a read of the articles they post and share.

You might not want constant emails coming through into your inbox, so you may want to set up a separate email for this. Set up a Google alert for UX news or something even more specific and Google will send you news updates directly to your inbox as and when they are posted.
