ALLIANZ
Researching and prototyping innovative ideas for AI-enabled products
Overview
Allianz, a global insurance giant, offers a comprehensive portfolio of insurance products tailored for supply chain managers in enterprise organisations. The product team responsible for these offerings sought to innovate and discover new propositions to:
- Build Stronger Relationships with Customers: Move beyond being merely a distress call, and instead, create proactive support systems for customers facing supply-chain risk challenges.
- Create Competitive Differentiation: Develop offerings that provide additional value beyond the insurance policy itself, influencing customer purchasing decisions.
LION+MASON was tasked with exploring, developing, and validating innovative ideas to help Allianz achieve these objectives.

Uncovering The Opportunity
We began by exploring the workings of a typical supply chain – identifying key users, understanding roles and responsibilities, and capturing needs and frustrations.
- Identified key actors at each stage of the supply chain
- Conducted user interviews to explore tasks performed and challenges faced
- Mapped user journeys for each key role highlighting common pain points
- Explored the adoption of AI to analyse and process risk data

Colaborative + Iterative Design
We built on this insight during a prototype and testing phase, which focussed on delivering a solution that provided users with access to the most important information in the right format.
- Created paper prototypes to validate early thinking and explore approaches
- Developed interactive digital prototypes to bring ideas to life
- Conducted regular cycles of user testing and documented findings

Designing For The Day-To-Day
Through a rapid research, prototyping, and testing program, a series of validated solutions for the development of the AI-powered insight portal were generated.
These solutions successfully addressed the real-world challenges faced by supply-chain professionals, ultimately demonstrating how to improve customer experience and achieving competitive differentiation.

LION+MASON delivered some amazing work: They have been ‘on it’ every minute, always available, demonstrated a great knowledge of our product and their advice was key to the development.

Why Asking Too Much Too Soon Is Killing Your Conversion
A perfectly functional sign-up journey is no guarantee of a successful product. We often see organisations invest heavily in ensuring a journey is usable, yet they are left wondering why their conversion rates remain stagnant. The issue is rarely that the user cannot complete the task: it is that they have reached a point where…
